Access To Education
Financial exclusion from university education is an issue affecting a broad range of students, from those experiencing poverty, illness, disability and other personal crisis. Financial distress remains one of the greatest barriers to education.
High costs associated with living away from home and education materials have a much greater impact on families from a lower socio-economic background and perpetuate a cycle of disadvantage for them, their families and the wider community that is difficult to break.
Educational scholarships have been proven to play a significant role in reducing barriers to education. Galway University Foundation is committed to raising funds to support University of Galway in helping students through scholarships to assist students facing hardship, to break down barriers to education through The Access Programme and to sustaining excellence through the Hardiman PhD Programme.
